Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between school environment and senior secondary school student performance in Biology in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. The simple random sample was used to drawn fifty percent of the population of teachers of Economics and students in the study area. A Checklist (SESAPEC) was administered to teachers to collect data on the availability of resources within the school environment and students’ academic performance. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation coefficient technique was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Result showed that there is a significant positive relationship between availability of building infrastructure, availability of classroom equipment,  availability of school facilities and students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State (p<0.01). It was recommended that government should intensify its efforts in monitoring learning achievement in schools and likewise provide schools with adequate building facilities so as to promote effective service delivery among teachers in secondary schools.
