Description

ABSTRACT

This study basically accessed the impact of rubber production on the socio economic development in rubber producing regions of Edo State Nigeria. The stratified random sampling techniques was used to draw  six (6) wards informed by the predominance of natural rubber production and the establishment of the Urho-Nigbe Rubber Estate Management Board in the area. From the six wards, 25 households were selected at random. The population of people in Orhionmown Local Government Area is about 206,717 (National Population Commission, Benin City, Edo State, 2016) while the projected population at 2% growth rate in 2017 is about 523,009 people. Primary and secondary data were used in this study. Responses collected from the questionnaire were analysed and presented using frequency count, percentages (%), tables and Chi-square (𝝌2) test statistics and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (IBM SPSS®) were used to test the hypotheses. The result from the analyses showed that rubber production has not significantly contributed to the social economic development of the people in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State. It was recommended that the rubber estate management should provide quality housing that can lead to infrastructural development in the study area
