Description
ABSTRACT
The oil palm plantation can be found throughout West Africa and palm oil has contributed significantly towards the Nigerian exports. However, the productivity of any agricultural produce such as oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) can be enhanced using mechanical means for the removal of drudgery from the entire production processes. This study was focused on mechanising and improving traditional procedures of oil palm processing in Nigeria with proposing an oil palm processing factory in Obagie, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State. The study was also geared towards providing a clearer understanding of the structure of the industry, the different types of oil processing approaches while highlighting the key players in the Nigeria industry and their roles in channelling palm oil into the end markets nationally and globally. In addition, the study highlighted the following: the trends of oil palm in a local, national and international context; the methods (traditional and modern) of processing oil palm in Nigeria; provided 4 different case studies of already existing oil processing factories, of which 3 of them are located in Nigeria, while the other services as an international assessment on oil palm processing; analysis on the study area (Obagie) and the benefits of the project in the area; and evaluated the proposed factory design which was architectural represented through drawings, while providing a general design appraisal of the drawings.
