ABSTRACT

The study examined the factors affecting the teaching of Basic Technology in secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area in Edo-State. Specifically, the study sought to find out whether poor planning, inadequate funding, shortage of qualified teachers and poor implementation of UBE affect the teaching of Basic Technology in secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo-State. The descriptive research design was adopted. Questionnaires were administered to collect data from students. The population of the study covers the two hundred and twenty nine (229) junior secondary school teachers in the sixteen (16) public secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. A self-developed questionnaire with 20-items was used to elicit information from respondents. Data collected was analysed with mean (X) and standard deviation (S.D). Findings from the analyses showed that poor planning; inadequate funding and poor implementation can affect the implementation of Basic Technology secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo-State. It was recommended that functional and well equipped Basic Technology workshop should be provided in all private and public schools. This will help to stimulate the interest of students and teachers towards the learning and teaching of the subject in the schools.
