Abstract
The study investigated the effect of gender discrimination on employees’ performance in Zenith and First Bank, Ekpoma Edo State. Specifically, the study sought to determine the effect of discrimination behaviours, unequal representation and glass on the performance of female employees in Zenith and First Bank. This study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The study covered all the 80 bankers in Zenith bank and First Bank Nigeria Plc in Ekpoma, Edo State. The entire population of 80 employees’ from Zenith and First Banks Nigeria Plc in Ekpoma was used in the study. Hence, no sampling technique was employed for the study. Data were sourced from primary and secondary sources. The instrument used for the study was a questionnaire developed by the researcher. The face and content validity of this instrument was carried out by my project supervisor and two experts in the Department of Business Administration (Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma). The researcher personally administered the questionnaire to staff in their various units in the bank. Data collected were analysed with frequency count and percentages (%) while the hypotheses were tested with Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistical technique. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (IBM SPSS®) was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Result showed that there is a significant effect of discrimination behaviours, unequal representation and glass ceiling on employee job performance in the banking sector. It is therefore recommended that for an organization to develop meaningful, it should enable all willing and able persons, irrespective of their sex, to fully participate in income generation and compensatory employment. Therefore, increased participation of women in the labour force will be an indicator of development in the banking sector.
