 Abstract
The study empirically examined the relationship between development banks on economic growth in Nigeria. Specifically, the objectives of the study are to examine the effect of Nigerian Bank for Commerce and Industry (NBCI), Bank of Industry (BOI) and Nigerian Agricultural and Cooperative Bank (NACB) on economic growth in Nigeria. This research made use of the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression technique in examining the development banks on economic growth in Nigeria between 1999 and 2020. The research technique employed for the study is the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression techniques. The result showed that there is a direct relationship between Nigerian Bank for Commerce and Industry credit Bank of industry (BOI) Nigeria Agricultural and Cooperative Bank Credit (NACB), Credit private sector (CPS) interest rate (INTR) and Real gross domestic product (RGDP).Therefore, it is concluded that increase in credit from Bank of industry (BOI), Nigeria Agricultural and Cooperative Bank Credit (NACB), Credit to private sector (CPS), money supply, interest rate (INTR) promotes real gross domestic product (RGDP) in Nigeria. The researcher therefore recommends that policies and measures should be adopted to foster a well regulated transparent banking system with high level of competition- since sound regulation and supervision in the banking system contributes to transparency, effectiveness and efficiency.
