Abstract
The challenges of social, economic and political development for Sub-Saharan Africa –Nigeria inclusive have remained in the front burner of development discourse in the world for the last three (3) decades or more. This is borne out of the grim reality of statistical data which revealed that of the about 80percent of the world’s population which lives in the developing world, the people’s lifestyle are marked by low incomes, high poverty, unemployment and low human capital development. Ideally, whistle blowing ought to be an ethical and moral duty. The moral obligation to blow the whistle may need to be justified and supported by cultural, social, religious and legal norms to gain acceptance in any society. Ideally, whistle blowing ought to be an ethical and moral duty. The moral obligation to blow the whistle may need to be justified and supported by cultural, social, religious and legal norms to gain acceptance in any society. Hence, it is concluded that the whistle blower policy of Nigeria has not been effective in mitigating corruption in Nigeria. It was recommended that there is need for the strengthening of the activities of the anti-corruption agencies in Nigeria such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC). This can only be possible if interference by political office holders is checkmated. Again, adequate funding and management of EFCC, ICPC, Police and other agencies saddled with the responsibility of the fight against corruption is required to engender sustenance of the post 2015 development agenda in Nigeria.
