ABSTRACT

This research work looked into accidents on high rise building construction sites workers. The objectives were to identify accidents associated with workers on high rise building construction sites, to assess the effects of risks on workers in high rise building project construction, to identify the causes of accidents on high rise building construction sites worker, to ensure that accidents are minimized on high rise building construction sites, To identify measures used in ensuring safety of workers on high rise building construction sites. The descriptive research design using the survey method was adopted. The state secretariat complex undergoing construction in Sapele road, Benin City, Edo State was selected as the study focus. Questionnaires surveys and interviews were conducted on engineers, builders and architects from contracting firms in Lagos to get the necessary information needed for this research work. The result shows that accidents related to management and design are the most significant in life of workers in construction projects. Accidents is inherent in every building construction project, especially complex projects like the high-rise buildings construction sites. All workers on the project site are prone to accidents and the impact of not managing these accident will reduce the performances of the workers on the project site. The management of accidents depends on experience in tuition and judgment. It is helpful to understand the significant hazard in order to anticipate their possible negative effects. This research work shows that client interference should be avoided or reduces in tandem with good communication and teamwork between contractors also need to give attention to the maintenance of equipment in order to sustain high productivity level.
